Hello,
I would like to ask: 1, Will there be a next build for F-Secure Internet Security 2009 Beta release? Current version: (8.40 build 128) released on June 3, 2008) 2, If not, when will be the final release and is the any benefits for we beta testers? 3, The link in F-Secure Internet Security Technology Preview (ISTP) is wrong, it should be http://support.f-secure.com/beta/istp/is2009beta.shtml as FSIS 2009 beta is out, will it be corrected?
Finally, I have noticed that the F-Secure Easy Clean Beta is out: http://support.f-secure.com/beta/fsec/fsec.shtml Seems to be interesting, would you give us some ideas like what kind (s) of malware can it be clean and what are the different and will there be a section in the forum?
Look forward to hearing from you guys!

What is "F-Secure Easy Clean"?
What can it be clean? Something like the F-Force disinfection utility: http://forum.f-secure.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1927
What are the differents between: - F-Secure Online scanner v3.3 and Health Check 1.0 SP1 http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/onlineservices/fshc/front.html - F-Secure Rescue CD 3.00 http://www.f-secure.com/linux-weblog/2008/06/19/f-secure-rescue-cd-300-released/
Please reply.

Good questions.
I hope the tool removes smitfraud. Man, that smitfraud is a pain in the rear.
Looking at when you started this topic. It does not look as if F-secure is going to answer your questions very soon.

I hope this clarifies what Easy Clean is: http://support.f-secure.com/beta/fsec/fsec_faq.shtml
Basically it is an advanced offline malware removal tool.
quote:
Online scanner is an easy to use browser based - well - online anti-virus scanner.
Health Check is not an anti-virus product. It's an online tool that checks the overall security status of your computer. Such as: is the software installed on your computer up to date and do you have possible security vulnerabilities.
Rescue CD is basically the last resort of AV protection, in case your computer is so badly infected that the operating system doesn't boot. It can be used both offline and online.
Lots of tools, yes. My view is that the Health Check and Online Scanner are more targeted at any end customer including your grandma.

Well, thanks for telling me. But, what I want to know is what can it do.
I do read the page you provided 2 weeks ago and test 2 different builds since I first find it on the F-Secure Technology Preview Program site. Still, I don¡¦t get what can it scan and what can it detect. To be more precisely, it can¡¦t scanned Rootkits (which you can use Blacklight) , tracking cookies and a brunch of virus, like Gpcode (Ref.: http://www.viruslist.com/en/weblog?calendar=2008-08)
If you check out the link http://forum.f-secure.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1927 you can know more about F-Force disinfection utility, (which has been release for some years) which is only serves a small amount of virus.
After testing, yes it can deactivate my FS (as it claims) and the interface seems to be nice (and you can choose your own language which is very user-friendly). The speed is fast and search on all of my physical drives. And that¡¦s all!
If so, then what¡¦s the value of such product? For example, I can use TrendMicro Damage Cleanup Engine / Template to handle the offline scanning. How about Sophos Threat Detection Test? You may even test if you AV /AM /IS vendor is working grate or not. Why don¡¦t you use Rescure CD 3.0? (Thought there is a small bug http://www.f-secure.com/linux-weblog/2008/08/27/rescuecd-300-faq/))
For people who think they are infected, they will try to find a tool which can help them to evaluate how sick is their PC, which make it sick and last but the least, can the PC back to normal. It¡¦s nice to know that FS is now releasing an ¡§offline tool¡¨ for searching and disinfecting malwares, but if it is not as useful as it claims: Easy Clean so why shall we use it? That the reason I bring my question and make a post in here¡K
Any ideas?
From, KF

I think the question was why did we release F-Secure Easy Clean? The reason was that our customers have asked us to provide an easy to use tool that is able to remove malware without having to use the Rescue CD. The new F-Secure Engine that's part of the 2009 products made it possible for us to build it and therefor we did. It also has the benefit of being able to be run in an fully offline mode. It has a brand new removal engine and should be able to handle most common families.
So the idea is that Easy Clean will replace F-Force.
Hope this helps.

Hi Patrik,
Thanks for your reply!
That's exactly I would like to know: To provide an easy to use tool that is able to remove malware without having to use the Rescue CD.
As you say it is using a new Hydra engine. Would you tell me what "common malware" it can be detected and clean and will it be update frequently? Also, will there be a proactive scanner included in this product?
Look forward to hearing from you soon!

We're still working on the families it will detect but will let you know once we have a good list. Remind me if I forget :)
And it will have some proactive capabilities in the sense that it will use generic detection to find families of malware. But it won't have technologies such as DeepGuard. It's really been designed as a removal tool and not as anything that proactively will block malware.
We will build a new version of the tool whenever we release a new database update. It doesn't try to download new updates by itself as it's an offline tool.
