Allow me to be somewhat impatient. I've got a three seat license for the internet 2010 product and have had such for several years.
After patch Tuesday, October 13, 2009, when I booted my Thinkpad t61 for the first time Wednesday morning, I received a "you may not be protected" warning, from f-secure, I think.
When I rebooted, I found that the windows firewall was on and F-secure was also. So I called the San Jose number.
Here I am going to copy my second email to your tech support, as I've had no response after 2 days to the first.
"I called this problem in to the US phone number about 10:00 a.m. local time on October 14, and I've followed the procedure suggested without success.
Subsequently, I sent the email below. To which I've had no response.
Given the time difference between the US and Finland, I am resending the message.
To confirm: Every time I reboot, "Security Center" says "one or more firewalls is operating", even though I've confirmed that the F-secure Internet 2010 firewall reports it is operating; However, when I go to "Windows Firewall", that reports the Windows firewall is running. When I turn that off, the Security Center reports the F-Secure Firewall is running. Yet, when I reboot, the whole thing happens again.
Please offer your best thoughts.
John Cadogan 7518 Murillo St. Springfield VA 22151 USA 703-866-9422" ...............................
I hope to get help somewhere as I sense a conflict between XP SP3 and your software, triggered by patch Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
Every time I reboot, I know I can address the problem manually but that's not satisfactory.
By the way, I followed the instructions provided on Oct 14 to uninstall, clean up and then re-install without success.
Thanks in advance.
John

On Monday October I received a response from Tech Support and we're working on the problem.
Initial suggestions did not resolve the problem..

I've been transferred to a second support engineer without resolution. The problem is that after patch Tuesday October 13, on rebooting the windows firewall is turned on, f-secure 2010 appears to be working and security center says "some firewall is installed but we can't tell which one. Turning the Windows firewall off, reveals F-Secure in security center. However, this does not survive a restart.
After 2 weeks of back and forth, all the support engineers could say was "uninstall Google desktop (which I use) and disable windows firewall.
This occurs on a Thinkpad T61 with XP SP3 and after patch Tuesday October 13. Wife's system, a Dell Inspiron, with SP3 and F-Secure 2010, does not exhibit this behavior.
I'll live with the situation by manually turning off Window's firewall after rebooting.
There will be lots of folks who stick with XP and I feel a bit let down by tech support, although we've had once daily communication and I appreciate that.

Hello,
This has been a known problem in IS2010 and we have published a fix for this on Oct 14; IS2010 installations should get the fix automatically. It is possible that your installation has not received the fix for some reason.
Please check what is the file version of fsdfwd.exe in Program Files\F-Secure\FWES\program folder.

Thank you.
fsdfwd.exe is in ...\fwes\program and is dated July 09,2009, or in US terms 07/09/09. It is 522848 bytes in length.
I'll check my wife's machine for chuckles.
Thanks again

Wife's machine is Dell Inspiron with XP SP3 and F-S internet 2010.
I provided what showa as modified date in my file manager earlier. Wife's creation date is 2008/12/30.
Creation date for me is: 2009/10/29
Huh? How can modified be earlier than created? Of course I've reinstalled at least 5 times.
File size is the same for both systems.
Thanks.
John

| Please check the "file version" property. Right-click on the file, select Properties, go to the Version tab and select "File Version".

Hello,
Indeed, the computer has not received the fix for some reason. After the fix has been installed, the file version should be 6.24.123.
Is the product otherwise receiving updates normally? Please open its user interface, Settings, and go to the "Downloads" page, then check if there are downloaded packages that have not been installed successfully.
Normally, there should be a package named "IS2010-MF03" there in "Installed" state, this is the package that contains the fix to this problem.
Have the other updates been downloaded and installed? For example, "Hydra" updates are published multiple times per day, so you should have these with today's timestamp.
You can also check if your other family computers have received the fix for comparison.

There is the "Install" button on the Downloads page, just select this package and press "Install", hopefully this will install the fix.
If this wouldn't work, there is a more complex method, but let's try this first.

Did as suggested. Install shows "waiting for res...."
Could that be restart?
I'll reboot.

Reboot worked.
Windows firewall is OFF without my intervention.
Updated module worked on reboot.
Only failure is 11/3 "classification engine..." and that says "will try again".
Is that a problem?
Hydras appear to update okay.
File version is ...123.0, rather than ...103.0.
Thanks for the help.
It may be appropriate to let other folks who tried to help in on the situation.
I'll stick with F-Secure for now.
Thanks again.

Good that it helped.
"Content Classification Engine" failure means that the Parental Control update failed for some reason, so the Parental Control filter is not up to date. The product should try to reinstall it at some point automatically.
If it still has not been installed, I can share a trick that will force its installation.
If you are not using Parental Control then you need not care about this too much though.

Thanks. Content Control ... not installed.
BUT!!!! I'm back to the same situation as before. ME03 is installed but setting windows firewall off does not survive reboot. Version is still ...123.0
This happened today before I installed patch Tuesday updates and now after.
I'm not crazy --- this is happening again. Also, note that the FSDFWD.exe shows a blank icon as if a DOS program. I'll check the wife's. It's the same.
Also, I do not use parental controls so the privileges engine is no big deal.
Please advise.
Cheers, Jack

Strange, we need to look into this, this problem is supposed to be fixed in this fsdfwd.exe build.
We may need to send you some debug binaries to get logs. Please send me your email address by email (my username here @f-secure.com), and once we have identified what logs we need, I'll send you more info.
